Althea Nzima

Artist Biography 
Althea S. Nzima is an artist originally from eMbalenhle, Mpumalanga who specialises in painting, drawing, collage and multimedia. She is a self-taught artist and her love for art started since she was in preschool. Nzima had a tough childhood, as a result she used drawing as her coping mechanism with the situation at home.  Nzima has always been fascinated by faces, personalities and storytelling.
These early experiences have fuelled her lifelong interest in portraits feminity and talking about censored issues within the society.
Nzima has been mentored by the likes of Blessing Ngobeni, Benon Lutaaya , and Thornton Khabeya. They’ve chiselled her artistic skills and developed her ability to use her artistic voice. Nzima has exhibited at Gavin Art Projects. She has participated in a mentorship programme at Touch Of Genius Gallery, where she had a group exhibition. Nzima has had several private collections of her work, did murals, and commissioned works.Nzima’s striking and meticulous works have been featured on Artimes and at Randburg Sun for outstanding emerging artist.
Nzima currently resides in Yeoville, Johannesburg. She is part of an initiative held at Yeoville Community Library to teach and mentor young students in art. She is also building numerous body of works to participate on exhibitions and competitions.
